AKARTA: The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has named a new suspect in a graft case surrounding the procurement of an information system at the Directorate General of Taxation involving PT Berca Hardayaperkasa (BHp), which is controlled by the politically connected Murdaya family.

AGO spokesman, Adi Toegarisman, only identified the suspect by the initials ASA, who was the budget officer in the procurement’s tender.

“ASA was also a secretary at the Directorate General of Taxation in 2006,” Adi told reporters on Monday.

PT BHp was suspected to have been involved in a specification downgrade on the information system tools for the directorate in 2006. The goods were downgraded to adjust to items available within the company.

PT BHp is owned by noted businesswoman Sri Hartati Murdaya, who has close ties with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. She also serves on the Democratic Party’s board of patrons.

Five people have been named suspects by the AGO; four from the Directorate General of Taxation and one, who has only been identified as LWH, who is PT BHp’s director.

The AGO was scheduled to summon ASA for questioning on Monday. Prosecutors issued a warrant for the investigation on April 24. (/fzm)
