ome 56 fires were recorded by the Forestry Ministry’s North Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) on Thursday.

Fourteen hotspots were detected in Sarolangun, while 11 were found in Batanghari and Tebo, respectively.

NOAA detected a further eight hotspots in Tanjung Jabung Barat, while there were five in Tanjung Jabung Timur. The remaining hotspots were scattered across Bungo, Merangin and Muarojambi.

The head of the Pest and Forest Fire Control Unit at the Jambi Forestry Agency, Jambi Sucipto, said the number of wildfires in the province had been rising within the past four days.

“Therefore, we urge local residents not do any open-air burning, to prevent the risk of fires,” Sucipto said, adding that he had deployed teams to check the fire-prone areas.
