fire burned down a total of 150 houses in a carpentry complex in Pondok Bambu, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, on Tuesday with damage predicted to amount to billions of rupiah.
Paimin Napitupulu, the Jakarta Fire Agency chief, said that most of the buildings in the 9,000 square-meter area were carpenter workshops.
“The damage cost is likely to be quite big because the fire destroyed teak logs, workshop machinery and tools,” he told kompas.com at the location.
There were no injuries or casualties reported.
Paimin said that the fire was caused by a short circuit in an empty home, the residents of which were visiting their hometowns for Idul Fitri.
The fire was extinguished at around 4 p.m. after the agency deployed 35 fire trucks.
