ire has gutted around 80 houses on Jl. Tongkol, Ancol, North Jakarta, leaving approximately 300 people homeless.
The fire on Friday, which claimed no lives, started around 2 p.m. and quickly swept through the neighborhood located beside railway tracks. The local fire department deployed 30 fire trucks to the scene and put out the fire at 4 p.m.
A North Jakarta Fire Department’ firefighter, Ridwan, said that the blaze originated from the house of a resident named Nandar, 40.
“The fire then quickly spread. We are still investigating the cause and the material losses from the fire,” he said.
One of the fire victim, Trima, 52, said that he and his family were asleep when he heard people yelling about the fire.
“All of my possessions inside the house are gone in the flames. The only thing left is the clothing that I’m wearing,” he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
