P

olice said they have arrested four suspects for their involvement in an assault case during a hearing on an election dispute in Central Halmahera, North Maluku, at the Constitutional Court on Oct. 18.

Three other suspects were still at large, according to Jakarta Police mobile detective chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Herry Heryawan.

“They attacked and assaulted two men using a helmet, sword and wheel lock,” he said on Thursday.

The two victims are identified as Bonny Sangaji and Jimi, both residents of Pondok Bambu, East Jakarta.

Bonny and Jimi were at the Court to guard the defendants in the case when a group of men attacked them. Bonny suffered from a sword slash on the back while Jimi was stabbed in the stomach. The two were rushed to the Persahabatan Hospital in East Jakarta.

All of the suspects are charged with Article 170 and 351 of the Criminal Code, with a maximum of 12 years imprisonment.

According to Herry, Bonny tapped one of the attackers on the shoulder outside the Court building and said: “Why are you here, you kids know nothing.”

The man hit Bonny with a helmet and called out his friends to beat Bonny, who was with Jimi at the time of incident.

The suspect’s friends were then rushed to a car and grabbed weapons with which they assaulted the victims.

Police seized a helmet, a wheel lock and two swords as evidence.
