he South Sumatra capital of Palembang will host the ASEAN Basketball League on April 26 at the Palembang Sport and Convention Center (PSCC).

There are six countries participating in the league: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Indonesia will be represented by the Indonesia Warriors team.

“Only matches between Indonesia and Malaysia will be played in Palembang. The four other countries will host the matches in their own countries,” Indonesia Warriors vice managing director, Rudolf Tulus, said on Friday.

The Indonesia Warriors consists of seven local players and five foreign players, two Americans and three Filipinos. The Indonesian players are Amin Priyantono, Mario Wusang, Christiano Ronaldo Sutepu, Dony Ristanto, Frans Caswadi, Agustina Indrajaya and Swen Deruijter.

“Like last year, the winning team will take part in the FIBA Asia Club Championship to be held in Lebanon,” Rudolf said.

Palembang Youth Affairs and Sports Agency head, Syaidina Ali, said the event would also feature a coaching clinic as well as a meet-and-greet session. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN.

Indonesia won the 2012 ASEAN Basketball League 2012 defeating the Philippines. Rudolf said the organizing committee would not publicize the amount of prize money.
