Arradi Nur Rizal could speak Spanish after living in Argentina for a year. As a fellow in a student exchange program, learning to speak the local language was a must.

Unfortunately, after he returned to Indonesia, Rizal lost some of his speaking ability, as he didn'€™t have any friends to practice with.

Your comments:

This is an interesting article. I'€™ve been living in Germany since January 2013 (I'€™m Indonesian) and I visit a German language course too, but my German is still really poor.

The biggest problem I have is I never have the confidence to start a conversation with Germans, so instead I usually play it safe by speaking English when I go shopping for example, or asking directions.

But from now on, I will try to build my self-confidence and speak more German, even though my vocabulary is limited.
