A

student of the University of Indonesia (UI) identified as Arradan Trengganala, has died after being hit by a commuter train at Pondok Cina station, Depok.
A witness, Herman, said that Arradan ignored warning signals and rode hismotorbike through a level crossing. Arradan was dragged 20 meters from the impact site by the train and his motorbike was dragged 200 meters, Tempo.co reported on Friday. Railway guard Supriatna acknowledged thatthe crossing gate did not cover the entire width of the crossing leaving enoughspace for a motorbike.
Supriatna said he did not have the authority to stop people going through thegap.
'€œBesides these trespassers would not comply and even get angry at me,'€ he said.
UI security guard Keman confirmed that Arradan was a student at UI'€™s school of economics. He said that Arradan'€™s body had been taken to Fatmawati General Hospital.
According to director of train safety at the Transportation Ministry, Hermanto Dwiatmoko, in last five years there were 106 similar accidents.
He said the ministry found that drivers'€™ unwillingness to comply with regulations was the main reason for the accidents.(nai/dic)
