Fewer C.Java students fail national exams

Central Java’s head of education Nurhadi Amiyanto said that only 1,133 out of almost half a million junior high school students failed the national exam in 2013, down from 4,289 in the previous year

entral Java'€™s head of education Nurhadi Amiyanto said that only 1,133 out of almost half a million junior high school students failed the national exam in 2013, down from 4,289 in the previous year.

'€œIn overall, 99.77 percent of total junior high school students passed the national exam in 2013, up from 99.15 percent from last year,'€ said Nurhadi.

The results of the national exams were announced on Saturday.

A student from state junior high school SMP Negeri 1 Magelang scored 9.14, the highest average score in the province. In 2012, SMP N 1 Magelang also recorded the highest score.

'€œThree junior high school students in Central Java are among 12 students with highest national exam scores nationally,'€ said Nurhadi.

They are Farrell Gerard Adeovinsorey of SMP Masehi in Temanggung; Maratus Solichah from SMP Negeri 1 Salaman; and Setiati Nur Chasanah of SMP Negeri 1 Magelang.

Meanwhile, 99.76 percent of total 22,394 junior high school students in Semarang passed the national exams, said head of elementary and high education at the Semarang education agency, Taufik Hidayat, on Saturday.

In 2013, only 53 of total 22,394 junior high students in the city failed the national exams, down from 110 or 99.51 percent of total 22,581 last year. (asw/ebf)
