The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) says that during May, deflation was recorded for the first time in a decade.
As reported by kompas.com, deflation stood at 0.03 percent in May.
Overall, total inflation this year stands at 2.3 percent and 5.47 percent year-on-year.
While deflation could indicate a potentially slowing economy, BPS head Suryamin said May's deflation was triggered by declining prices in the commodity market.
"Deflation was mainly triggered by the declining prices of chili, shallots and onions," Suryamin said.
