he South Jakarta Traffic Police have named renowned actor Arianto 'Ari' Wibowo a suspect for careless driving that led to the death of oneperson, a police official said.
The official added, however, that Ari was not detained as his lawyer had bailed him.
'Ari showed good will and responsibility by taking the victim to hospital and not fleeing from the scene,' South Jakarta Traffic Police chief Comr. Sutimin said on Thursday as quoted by tempo.co.
Sutimin also said the police had not found any trace of alcohol or drugs in Ari's blood. He said Ari was charged with violating Law No.22/2009 on traffic and transportation and therefore could face a punishment of up to five years in prison if proven guilty.
The accident allegedly occurred when Ari was driving his Ducati superbike on Jl. Wolter Monginsidi, South Jakarta. According to Ari, he lost his balance at a speed of 40 km per hours and then hit Karmadi, who was cleaning the street.
Karmadi sustained head injuries and was rushed to Pertamina Hospital where he was declared dead on the same day after receiving medical treatment. (dic)
