ozens of students from the Ichsan Management and Computer Sciences Institute (STIMIK) have staged a rally urging newly appointed Gorontalo Police chief Brig. Gen. Andjaya to question Gorontalo Governor Rusli Habibie over a number of corruption cases.
"The new police chief has to immediately question Gorontalo governor over a number of corruption cases in 2011 when he was still North Gorontalo regent," rally coordinator Irwan Abbas told the crowd.
The students also called on the police not to allow the provincial administration to intervene in investigations of a number of corruption cases.
Previously, Andjaya said he was committed to solving 17 corruption cases being investigated by his predecessor. Rusli is allegedly involved in some of the cases.
The National Police headquarters have deployed a team of seven officers to investigate two of the cases implicating Rusli when he was North Gorontalo regent causing a total of Rp 1.39 billion (US$125,800) in losses. The officers, led by Sr. Comr. Hudi Suryanto, examined the cases from Tuesday to Friday.
