he SouthSulawesi Police have named eight suspects following a bloody clash betweenprotesters and the police over a rally in which the former requesting theformation of a new regency called Central Luwu.

The clash witnessed the death of one, Chandra, with others being severely injured.

'€œWe found gunshot wounds on Chandra'€™s body, but they didn'€™t come from a police rifle. Given the projectiles found in the body, the bullets may be from a homemade rifle used by some people during the rally,'€ South Sulawesi Police chief Insp. Gen. Burhanuddin Andi said on Wednesday.

To date, dozens of people who were wounded during the clash still received medical treatment in several hospitals around Luwu.

Burhanuddin said the police had met with formal and informal leaders and asked the people to make their request to the House of Representatives.

'€œThe people should bring the issue to the House and not stage mass rallies that block streets, because it will disrupt public order,'€ he said.

Dozens of people staged a mass rally demanding the local administration form Central Luwu regency, clashing with police who were safeguarding the rally.

The police attempted to disperse the rally as they considered it had disrupted public order. (dic)
