akarta Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo hasofficially opened the 1st WorldRoyal Heritage festival at the Borobudur Hotel in Central Jakarta.
Dozens of representatives from palaces inside and outside the country are participating in the festival.
Royal representatives from Japan, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, the UK, Portugal, South Africa, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore and the Philippines were among the foreign contingents. They mingled with local counterparts from Kutai Kartanegara, Surakarta, Yogyakarta and Papua, among others at the festival.
Papuan Indigenous People Forum head Harun Sabuku showed his support for Jokowi should the latter decide to join next year's presidential race.
'I'm proud this event is led by a young leader like Pak Jokowi. I hope Pak Jokowi can lead not only Jakarta but also this country in the future,' Harun told the forum.
The World Royal Heritage Festival, which will be held from Thursday to Sunday, will showcase 165 palaces from across the country, 10 foreign palaces, 300 royal carriages, 1,000 cultural performances, an exhibition, a culinary festival and various workshops.
The festival will be centered at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta. (dic)
