T

he National Police arrested four men believed to be linked to terrorism-related activities, police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar announced on Tuesday.

The police's counterterrorism squad, Densus 88, made the arrests in two separate locations in Medan, North Sumatera, and Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, on Monday.

'€œThree men, who are affiliated with Fadli Sadama'€™s group, were detained in Medan. They are Hayat Ihok, Thomas Ihok and Fahrul Rozi,'€ Boy said at the National Police headquarters in South Jakarta.

Under Fadli's direction, the three allegedly took part in a string of bank robberies between 2008 and 2010, including the 2010 CIMB Niaga bank robbery, in which a gang of 16 men killed a security guard and escaped with Rp 370 million (US$30,340).

According to Boy, the police were able to locate and identify the three suspects after interrogating Fadli, who had been recaptured last month after absconding from Tanjung Gusta Penitentiary in Medan in July.

'€œ[The police arrested them] as they had communicated with and harbored Fadli while he was on the run,'€ he said.

Fadli, a key member of the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) Medan chapter, escaped from prison while serving an 11-year sentence for supplying firearms used in the CIMB Niaga bank heist and a police attack.
