he Public Works Ministry's director general of water resources, Mohammad Hasan, says his agency will build two reservoirs in West Java to help deal with flooding in Jakarta.
'To help with flood recovery efforts, we will build two reservoirs upstream of the Ciliwung, namely in Sukamahi and Ciawi,' said Mohammad on Monday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He explained that the two reservoirs upstream of the Ciliwung River would be completed by early 2015, with funding coming from the state budget (APBN), if approved.
'If approved by the Jakarta Council, [the cost] will be covered by the Jakarta provincial government,' Mohamad said.
He explained that his agency would determine the locations, which would come under the authority of the central government.
'We will build a canal next by constructing a 1.2-kilometer tunnel that can carry water at 200 cubic meters per second,' Mohammad said. (krb)
