est Kalimantan Governor Cornelis will depart for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Monday, to monitor progress on the appeal petition of two Indonesian migrant workers from Pontianak ' Dharry Frully Hiu, 20, and Frans Hiu, 20 ' who were sentenced to death for alleged murder.
'We will be fighting for the repatriation of our two residents. We will do our best to release or lighten their sentences,' said Cornelis in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, on Sunday.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the Traffic Safety Pioneer National Movement, which coincided with the opening of the 57th anniversary celebration of West Kalimantan administration at the Rumah Radakng (Dayak traditional house) complex in Pontianak.
Cornelis said he would be accompanied by a team of lawyers from the West Kalimantan provincial administration's legal bureau. The governor will also facilitate the appellants' parents to attend the follow up appeal hearing at Rayuan Appeal Court.
The Hiu brothers, who are Pontianak residents, were charged with murder under Article 302 of the Malaysian Criminal Code at Shah Alam High Court in Selangor, Malaysia, in 2013.
The Hiu brothers were working at a Playstation rental store in Selangor when they spotted R. Kharcic who they alleged was attempting to steal from their employer's house, which led to a fight that ended in Kharcic's death. (ebf)
