Bogor Regent Rachmat Yasin said 93 out of 400 illegal villas built on a green-belt area would be demolished
Bogor Regent Rachmat Yasin said 93 out of 400 illegal villas built on a green-belt area would be demolished.
He said the villas were owned by 31 individuals.
"Bogor residents deserve to breathe fresh and cool air every day. They don't need villas here," he told journalists during a tree-planting ceremony at the upstream area of the Ciliwung River in Tugu Selatan village, Cisarua, Bogor, on Tuesday.
The regent also committed to expanding the regency's water catchment areas.
"We don't want to be blamed for the flooding in Jakarta," he said.
Commenting on this, Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo, who attended the ceremony, said he appreciated the regent's effort.
"Let's focus on resolving this problem. Let's start working now," he said.
Besides rain, water from upper regions like Bogor is often said to cause the capital's flooding.(dic)
