overnor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said on Friday that he would not report the listening devices found in his residence two months ago to the police because the eavesdropping was harmless given his relative unimportance.
"The culprit should just wiretap important people. But me? Who am I? What would they want from me? At home I talked about fried rice on the first day, sayur lodeh [vegetables in coconut milk] on the second day, goat satay on the third day and so on," he told reporters Friday at City Hall.
"I'm not going to make a big deal out of it by reporting it to the police. I'm pretty sure it was nothing important anyway."
The governor, who tops every credible poll of potential presidential candidates, acknowledged, however, that he had increased security inside and around his home.
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) revealed on Thursday that Jokowi was subject to eavesdropping, a development the party's leaders deemed was a threat to the party ahead of the presidential election.
