ess than a month before the April 9 legislative election, the Finance Ministry has approved additional funds of Rp 1.7 trillion (US$149.12 million) for the General Election Commission (KPU).

KPU member Sigit Pamungkas said on Monday that the funds would be allocated for Public Protection units (Satlinmas) and the establishment of polling stations (TPS).

'€œRp 1.3 trillion is earmarked for Satlinmas and additional funds of Rp 409 billion are for TPS,'€ he said as quoted by tempo.co, adding that recruitment and logistical costs for the Satlinmas personnel were included in the extra funding.

Previously the 2014 State Budget (APBN) allocated Rp 14.4 trillion for the upcoming election, without any allocation for Satlinmas personnel.

There will be two Satlinmas personnel in each TPS who will be paid Rp 250,000 each. There are 545,729 polling stations across the country.

Regarding the polling stations, the Finance Ministry accepted the KPU'€™s proposal to increase the budget to set up each TPS. Initially the ministry only provided Rp 500,000 per TPS in an efficiency drive although the KPU had requested Rp 1 million.

'€œThe KPU proposed an additional Rp 250,000 per TPS so at least the budget will be equal to the 2009 General Elections,'€ Sigit said. (idb/nvn)
