Singer-songwriter Adhitia Sofyan says he is a slow reader. The chains of words bore him easily when he tries to finish books. For him, reading is a way to get as much information as possible, but that does not have to come from books.
'Honestly, I don't have any books or written texts that can be said to have inspired, changed or influenced my life to any extent,' he said.
In the digital era, Adhitia prefers to surf the Internet to find good reads from reliable sources, adding that he rarely buys books or subscribes to any paid news as there are many free reading materials available on the Internet that he never gets enough of.
As a creative director at a virtual consulting company and a musician, he is online every day to read the latest news about advertising and the music business from websites around the world.
'In the early 2000s, I read a lot of advertising books, but now all of my reading materials are from the Internet,' Adhitia said.
The 36-year-old, who calls himself a bedroom musician, started his career in the music industry in 2008 and has so far produced three albums. The latest one, How to Stop Time, was released in 2012.
Here are some of Adhitia's favorite reading resources:
'DigitalBuzzBlog.com' and 'ViralBlog.com'
These websites are my favorites because they feature the latest updates on digital campaigns from around the world, so I can always have a reference point about what international brands are doing in the digital communications sector. In addition, these sites also offer interesting digital advertising news and have a lot of case studies. They also focus on the creative sector, which is very valuable in supporting my job as a creative director.
'RenmanMB.com'
This is my favorite website for getting information about a lot of things related to music. It features news about the musicians, record labels, the music business and even tips and tricks for making good music.
Haruki Murakami's books
I always like his books. The first book of his that I read was Norwegian Wood and I'm currently trying to finish two of Murakami's other books: The Wind-up Bird Chronicle and 1Q84. I like his books because they are dark but descriptive and the stories seem to never end. I also like how the endings often make me anxious.
