espite its relatively poor quick-count results, the Democratic Party will not offer its presidential candidate for the position of vice president if the party forms a coalition.

Democratic Party executive chairman Syariefuddin Hassan stressed that his party would not "sell" the convention participants as vice presidential candidate.

"From the very beginning the convention was intended to find a presidential candidate, not a vice president," Syariefuddin told tempo.co on Thursday.

With a 10-percent share of the vote, Syariefuddin said, the Democratic Party should be realistic and form a coalition. However, he said, its bargaining position will not be lowered by proposing a candidate for vice president.

"No for vice president," he reiterated.

He declined to elaborate the fate of presidential convention participants and dismissed the rumor that the party was assessing other candidates outside the convention.

He said the Democratic Party would worthy of a part of in a coalition, especially as the party has 10-years experience in running the country.

The party'€™s convention started in September last year. The candidates are Ali Masykur Musa, Anies Baswedan, Dahlan Iskan, Dino Patti Djalal, Endriartono Sutarto, Gita Wirjawan, Haryono Isman, Irman Gusman, Marzuki Alie, Pramono Edhie Wibowo and Sinyo Harry Sarundajang. (put)
