280 students in Lampung fail to attend national exam

L

ampung Education Agency head Tauhidi said he felt disappointed because many senior high school and vocational school students in the province did not attend the national exam for various reasons.

Overall, the 2014 national exam in senior high schools and vocational schools in a number of regencies and municipalities in Lampung went smoothly, however, he added.

'€œOf a total 86,011 participants in the national exam for senior high schools and vocational schools in Lampung, 280 cancelled their participation for various reasons. Similar cases also happened last year,'€ said Tauhidi, adding the data was based on reports from several regencies and municipalities in Lampung as of Sunday.

He said 181 of the 280 exam participants were vocational school students, while the remaining 99 were senior high school students.

'€œThe figures could be higher because not all regencies have reported the number of senior high school and vocational school students who did not attend the exam,'€ said Tauhidi.

Way Kanan Education Agency head Gino Vanolie said the national exam in the regency had gone smoothly.

'€œAlthough Way Kanan is one of the farthest areas from the province'€™s capital [Bandar Lampung], question materials arrived on time so that the exam could take place as scheduled,'€ he said.

'€œWe hope the students can not only pass the national exam but also gain better or higher scores than last year,'€ said Gino in Blambangan Umpu, Way Kanan, on Monday.

This year, the number of senior high school students attending the exam in Way Kanan reached 2,336, followed by 1,252 vocational school students and 544 students from Islamic high schools. (ebf)
