hildren of senior high school age serving time in prisons in Jambi exercised their right to take the national exams (UN) in their previous schools, on Monday.

'€œUnlike in 2013, convicted children have been allowed to take the national exams in their respective schools instead of in prison,'€ said Jambi Penitentiary warden Hendra Eka Putra on Monday.

Head of the correctional institution division at the Jambi-chapter of the Law and Human Rights Ministry, Wahidin, said no one from Bangko Penitentiary sat the national exams this year but seven were scheduled to sit the Paket C exams.

'€œTwelve convicts will participate in the Paket B exams while four people will take the Paket A,'€ he said.

Two convicted children, one each from Muara Bulian Penitentiary and Jambi Penitentiary, will sit the national exams, set to take place from Monday to Wednesday. The Paket B and Paket C exams have not yet been scheduled for children serving sentences at Muara Bulian.

'€œIn Bungo Penitentiary, there are 7 child prisoners and 3 child detainees but none of them will take the national exams,'€ said Wahidin. (ebf)
