uspended Medan MayorRahudman Harahap was taken to Tanjung Gusta Penitentiary after the NorthSumatra Prosecutor's Office received a copy of a Supreme Court rulingsentencing Rahudman to prison for five years.
Prosecutors had attempted to pick up Rahudman the night before but faced resistance from Rahudman's family and lawyer.
Tuesday's arrest was made by the prosecutors in cooperation with the police.
Prosecutor Chandra Purnama of the North Sumatra's Prosecutor's Office said it took about 30 minutes to make the arrest.
'The suspect was cooperative and said he was prepared to be arrested,' Chandra said on Tuesday.
Rahudman's lawyer, Hasrul Benny Harahap, said he had protested the arrest because he had not received a copy of the ruling.
'My client has decided to obey the law despite the fact that we don't have a copy of the ruling,' he said.
Rahudman was previously acquitted by the lower court of embezzling village funds in 2005 when he was South Tapanuli regency secretary.
Prosecutors appealed the verdict. The Supreme Court handed Rahudman a five-year prison term. Prosecutors previously demanded a four-year sentence.(dic)
