regional conference of female police officers currently being held in Semarangwill focus on transnational crime involving women and children.

National Police Chief Gen. Soetarman highlighted the complexity of today'€™s crime requested special attention from all personnel, including the police women.

'€œWe need to pay serious attention on transnational crimes, especially those implicating women and children,'€ Soetarman told the conference on Monday.

He acknowledged that female police officers had been a shining example of honesty and integrity among the police force.

Women Empowerment and Children Protection Minister Linda Gumelar praised the fact female police officers had improved the overall image of the police force. However, she went on, the goal is to increase the number of female officers in the force to 30 percent, from the current 3 percent.

'€œThe National Police need to consider the ratio between women and men when recruiting personnel. Additional female officers are a must,'€ she said.

Dozens of representatives of female police officers from countries like Malaysia, Maldives, the Philippines and Thailand, among others have been gathering at the '€˜Female police officers'€™ regional II conference'€™ held at the Police Academy in Semarang, Central Java from April 19-24.(dic)
