he Jakarta Police have requested the Immigration Directorate General at the Law and Human Rights Ministry to delay the deportation of 20 Jakarta International School (JIS) teachers, following alleged limited-stay permit violations, to allow them to first complete their investigation into the several sexual abuse cases reported by different students at the school.

The police said they had sent the request to the South Jakarta Immigration Office, which has the legal authority to delay the deportations, following a new report filed by a JIS student who had claimed to have been molested by a teacher.

'€œWe will be questioning four people,'€ Jakarta Police criminal investigations director Sr.Comr. Heru Pranoto said on Sunday as quoted by tribunnews.com.

He refused to give details when asked whether the four people in question were teachers at the school. '€œWe question people, not professions,'€ Heru said.

He added that the police would first be questioning the alleged victim, the child'€™s parents who filed the police report, and several other witnesses before questioning the staff members.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto had previously announced that the parents of a JIS student had filed a new report last Friday alleging sexual abuse, adding to the list of sexual abuse allegations by JIS students.

The police have named five suspects in the first abuse case, involving a 6-year-old kindergarten pupil, which was reported earlier this year. (fss/ebf)
