gas stove exploded in a restaurant during the opening of Transmart Carrefour Super Center, a new supermarket in Tangerang, Banten, on Friday.
According to several witnesses, an explosion was heard from the kitchen of the in-store restaurant, Mama Malaka, sometime around 1 pm, as reported by tempo.co.
"We are still investigating the cause," PT Trans Retail Indonesia president director Shafie Samsuddin said on Friday.
As many as three people were injured during the explosion; two suffered wounds on their hands and one victim broke a leg. The victims were rushed to Sakit Awal Bros hospital around 1:15 p.m.
Shortly after the victims were evacuated, several restaurant workers attempted to put out the fire using fire extinguishers.
PT Trans Retail Indonesia launched the Transmart Carrefour Super Center in Tangerang on Friday. The new retail store combines a hypermarket, entertainment center, and food and clothes stores into a single area, and is marketed for the middle- and upper-class patrons. (fss)
