he government says that it will accelerate the construction of 15 main infrastructure projects across Indonesia before the next government takes over in October.
"We have decided to speed up the development of a number of infrastructure projects that have been quite late in implementation," Coordinating Economic Minister Chairul Tanjung told Antara news agency in Jakarta on Wednesday after a closed meeting with other ministers.
The projects include the expansion of the country's main gateway, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, and the development of Kertajati International Airport, Cilamaya Port, a steam-fired power plant in Pangkalan Susu, Jatigede Dam and a Trans-Sumatra toll road.
To cover the Rp 355 trillion (US$27.8 billion) Trans-Sumatra project, Chairul said the government had set up a small team to draft a presidential decree (Perpres) so that state-owned firms could get easier access to financing and thus speed up the toll road's construction.
"The team consists of the Public Works Ministry, Bappenas [National Planning Development Board], Finance Ministry, State-Owned Enterprises Ministry and the Secretary of the Cabinet. I want them to finish the draft of the Perpres in a week," he said.
Bappenas head Armida Alisjahbana, Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan and Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan attended the meeting. (nfo)
