A

member of the police'€™s Mobile Brigadedied after being assaulted by dozens of people on motorcycles near theUniversity of Indonesia trainstation, Depok, West Java on Tuesday morning.

'€œThe victim died because he was assaulted," Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said on Tuesday as reported by tempo.co.

Second Agent Rizki Dwi Wicaksono, 20, was attacked while en route to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. He left the mobile brigade headquarters in Kelapa Dua, Depok, and was reportedly ambushed by a gang of motorcyclists.

According to Rikwanto, at 12:40 a.m., 10 people on five motorcycles blocked the road and smashed the rear window of Rizki'€™s taxi.

Rizki was attacked with a sharp object. Rikwanto said that Rizki's body was cut on the back and fingers and that his lips were bruised. Rizki also suffered a blow to the head.

The police suspect that Rizki had been targeted by the perpetrators because during their investigation they discovered that none of his belongings were missing.

"The taxi driver was not assaulted, only the victim," South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Wahyu Hadiningrat said, adding that they had yet to uncover the motive behind the attack.

The police are trying to identify the perpetrators by questioning eyewitnesses, especially the taxi driver.

"The driver did not see the license plates clearly."

The taxi had a crack on the left side of the windshield in addition to the broken rear window and the front passenger'€™s seat was splattered with blood. The taxi has been impounded at the Jagakarsa Police office for investigative purposes. (fss)
