tate-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan has kicked off the operation of the country's very first biomass power plant (PLTB) in Gorontalo to help supply electricity to the eastern parts of Indonesia.
The corncob-based PLTB, which is located in Pongaila village, Pukubala district, has the capacity to generate a total of 500 kilowatts of energy.
"This is the first biomass plant in Indonesia and it is listed under state-owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara's networks," said Dahlan's special staffer Abdul Aziz, as quoted by Antara news agency on Monday.
He said that Dahlan was accompanied by Gorontalo deputy governor Idris Rahim and PT PLN East Indonesia operations director Vickner Sinaga during the inauguration ceremony.
Gorontalo was the perfect place to develop the corncob-based plant as the province produced 104,000 tons of corns every year, he said. (nfo)
