T IMR ARC Steel is widely regarded as a company that deeply understands Indonesia’s investment climate and respects the government’s downstreaming policy. That is why the flagship subsidiary of global resource giant IMR Group is cited as both a pioneer and a modern symbol of the bilateral relationship between India and Indonesia.

India’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Shri Sandeep Chakravorty, said IMR Group’s decision to invest in Indonesia while honoring its downstreaming policy is a positive development.

“Indonesia is a country rich in human and mineral resources. In recent years, the government has consistently implemented a policy of not only exporting raw materials but also processing them domestically, a policy known as downstreaming. Although this policy has met with some resistance from foreign partners, I believe IMR ARC has remained a pioneer in understanding its importance by building a modern cold rolling plant in Mojokerto to process raw materials in Indonesia and then selling them to the global market,” said Ambassador Chakravorty during his address at PT IMR ARC Steel’s 10th anniversary celebration in Mojokerto on Saturday ( 19 July 2025).

In the event attended by Mojokerto Regent ( Bupati) Muhammad Al Barra, His Excellency Mr. Sandeep Chakravorty Ambassador of India to Indonesia, high-ranking government officials and industry leaders, TNI - Polri (Army - police) officers and key representatives from the Ministries of Industry, Trade, Investment and Customs, the company’s growing influence in the region was evident.

India’s Ambassador to Indonesia also praised IMR ARC’s decision to establish a steel-processing industry in Indonesia, specifically in Mojokerto Regency, East Java Province.

“I am delighted that through IMR ARC Steel, the relationship between India and Indonesia grows stronger day by day. I believe this is a very, very important element that is often underappreciated. In my view, your factory and industry stand as a modern symbol of the India-Indonesia relationship,” Shri Sandeep Chakravorty continued in his remarks.

He also stressed the long-term importance of India-Indonesia cooperation.

“IMR exemplifies how Indian industrial expertise and Indonesia’s natural and human resources can come together to build something truly impactful,” he added.

Meanwhile, Anirudh Misra, Chairman and Founder of IMR Group, remarked that PT IMR ARC’s journey in Indonesia, founded in 2015, has been a story of collaboration, innovation and mutual growth.

“We remain committed to contributing to Indonesia’s industrial future while strengthening India-Indonesia economic ties,” Misra affirmed in his speech.

According to Anirudh Misra, the group of companies he leads is not solely focused on production but also actively contributes to creating added value in the downstream sector.

“We are not only focused on producing high-quality stainless steel, but also on generating value in the downstream sector, absorbing local labor, developing human resources and aligning with Indonesia’s national industrial ambitions,” asserted IMR Group founder Anirudh Misra.

Also in attendance was Mojokerto Regent (Bupati) Muhammad Al Barra, who expressed appreciation to IMR Group for selecting Mojokerto Regency as the investment destination led by Anirudh Misra.

“What PT IMR ARC Steel has accomplished, we hope, will be sustainable. We from the local government are committed to providing support, comfort, security and assistance with licensing and other matters concerning foreign investment in Mojokerto Regency. With easier investment processes, we hope more domestic labor will be absorbed,” said Regent Al Barra (Bupati).

As part of its commitment to social responsibility, the company awarded educational scholarships to children from communities surrounding its manufacturing plant. “We want to continue growing not only as a good company but also as a positive influence on the environment,” said Mr. Animesh Misra, Director of IMR Group. The initiative reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to uplift local communities and foster long-term, inclusive development.

The 10th anniversary celebration of PT IMR ARC Steel, attended by all employees and plant workers, featured a ceremonial nasi tumpeng cutting led by Joint Operation Director Jihan Dwi Wardana. As part of its corporate social responsibility, VVIP guests were given a tour of the production facilities, and the event concluded with a tree-planting ceremony for reforestation.

PT IMR ARC Steel operates a high-tech stainless-steel cold rolling plant in East Java, with an annual production capacity of 120,000 tons and employs hundreds of people. The company supplies premium stainless-steel products to various sectors, including kitchenware, electronics, fabrication, furnishings and the automotive industry, making a significant contribution to Indonesia’s domestic manufacturing landscape.

The company’s growth is driven by IMR Group’s vertically integrated global operations across mining, manufacturing and raw material trading. With a presence in more than 20 countries, the group trades over 30 million tons of commodities annually, with a turnover of  circa US$ 3 billion.

IMR’s strategic metallurgical coal mining operations in Kalimantan and its stainless-steel manufacturing investments in Java underscore its long-term commitment to Indonesia. The company plans to expand its production footprint by acquiring an additional 20,000 square meters of land to meet growing market demand.

With total investments of approximately $300 million in Indonesia, IMR Group continues to play a vital role in supplying essential raw materials to steel and energy industries across India and Southeast Asia, while creating jobs and strengthening regional supply chains.

As IMR ARC Steel enters its second decade, the company remains focused on sustainability, technological advancement and deepening partnerships across Indonesia and the region.
