he North Sumatra Transportation Agency reported that 14,141 air passengers had arrived at Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang regency, North Sumatra, as of Sunday, one day before the start of Idul Fitri.
The agency's Idul Fitri division supervisor, Lisbeth, said the flights had arrived from a number of cities nationwide, such as Banda Aceh, Bandung, Jakarta, Makassar, Padang, Semarang and Surabaya.
Tens of thousands of passengers who traveled on 99 domestic flights reportedly arrived safely, while the flights had been incident-free.
'The passenger arrivals Kualanamu airport were quite dense on Friday, three day before Idul Fitri. Most of the passengers were holiday travelers who wanted to celebrate Idul Fitri in their hometowns and villages,' Lisbeth said on Sunday as quoted by Antara news agency.
As of Sunday, the number of passengers departing from Kualanamu airport had reached 12,487, on 100 flights.
'Most of the passengers were leaving for Jakarta and several cities in Java,' she said.
Kualanamu Airport served 7,410,046 passengers and 68,301 aircraft in 2013, while in 2012, it recorded 7,991,772 passengers and 65,969 aircraft. (ebf)
