orruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators on Monday questioned Anggito Abimanyu, the former director general for the haj and umrah (minor haj pilgrimage) at the Religious Affairs Ministry.
'We summoned him [Anggito] regarding Suryadharma Ali's case,' said KPK spokesman Priharsa Nugraha as quoted by Antara news agency.
The KPK named Suryadharma, a former religious affairs minister, a suspect in May for allegedly abusing his authority by allowing dozens of people ' reportedly his relatives, ministry colleagues and lawmakers from the House of Representatives, whose names were falsely registered as Indonesian Haj Organizing Committee (PPHI) representatives ' to join him on a haj pilgrimage using state funds.
After Suryadharma resigned from his post in May, Anggito followed suit by submitting his resignation in the same month, amid allegations that he also played a role in the corruption case.
Besides Anggito, some members of the House of Representatives, such as Gondo R Gambiro and Nurul Mustofa, were similarly scheduled to be grilled by KPK investigators on Monday.
Anggito arrived at the KPK headquarters at 10 a.m. without giving any statement to reporters. (alz)
