n a move that appears retaliatory, former United Development Party (PPP) chairman Suryadharma Ali has dismissedall PPP officials that he deemed responsible for his ouster as party chairman.

Secretary-general Romahurmuziy and three deputies, Emron Pangkapi, Lukman Hakim Syaifuddin and Suharso Monoarfa, were fired by Suryadharma, who said the four officials had severely violated the party'€™s constitution by attempting to fire him.

'€œThey are now facing the consequences for trying to fire me illegally. What they did was against the party'€™s regulations,'€ he said Friday as quoted by kompas.com.

Suryadharma appointed Saifullah Tamliha as secretary-general and four deputies -- Dimyati Natakusumah, Hasrul Azwar, Masykur Hasyim and Epryardi Asda -- soon after the mass firing.

The former religious affairs minister also dismissed six heads of the party'€™s executive board; Ermalena Muslim, Reni Marlinawati, Aunur Rofik, Rusli Effendi, Yusroni Yazid and Hizbiyah Rohim.

Suryadharma was unseated as PPP chairman seat at an executive meeting held on Tuesday. Secretary-general Romahurmuziy said Suryadharma had lost his legitimacy to lead  after being declared a suspect in a graft case related to the misuse of funds in the country's hajj pilgrimage program.  Suryadharma, was advised to focus on the legal process and hand down the party chairmanship to his deputy.(dic)
