he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said over the weekend that an Ibanez bass guitar that was presented as a gift by Metallica bass player Robert Trujillo to president-elect Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo may be put up for auction in the near future.
'The guitar is on loan to us. When the time is right, we will put it up for auction,' KPK spokesman Johan Budi said.
Johan said the bass guitar actually belonged to the Finance Ministry and that the antigraft body was borrowing it temporarily to have it displayed at KPK headquarters.
Jokowi reported and handed the guitar over to the KPK in May last year to avoid violating the Corruption Law.
Trujillo, gave the Ibanez bass guitar to the Jakarta governor via promoter Jonathan Liu, who sponsored a Metallica concert in Jakarta last year.
Trujillo handwrote a message on the guitar, reading: 'Giving back! To Jokowi. Keep playing that cool funky bass.'
