ormer youth and sports minister Roy Suryo visited Thursday his predecessor, Andi Alfian Mallarangeng, who is locked up at the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) detention center for graft.
Roy said he could visit Andi now that he was no longer a public official.
'I've been wanting to visit him for so long. Now that I have retired, there is nothing that could be construed as a conflict of interest,' Roy told reporters.
The Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Andi to four years' imprisonment for his role in the graft case surrounding the construction of a sports complex in Hambalang, West Java.
Andi was convicted of accepting Rp 4 billion and US$550,000 from a company called Global Daya Manunggal via his brother, Andi 'Choel' Zulkarnaen Mallarangeng.
Andi allegedly used the money to fund his bid for the Democratic Party chairmanship during a national congress in Bandung, West Java, in 2010.
He lost the bid to Anas Urbaningrum, who is also now in prison for graft.
