ovie producer PT Kinema Systrans Multimedia, which is headquartered in Nongsa, Batam, Riau Islands, has begun to show its influence in the world'€™s film and animation industry by releasing a number of quality products marketed under the brand name, Infinite Frameworks (IFW).

Its film and animation products face tight competition against products of similar companies from China and India, which are claimed to have much cheaper film and animation production costs.

Kinema Systrans Multimedia managing director Michael Wiluan told The Jakarta Post on Sunday that in the middle of November his company would produce two films for the international market, namely Singapore 1965, a movie about the evolution of Singapore since it was first established up to now, and Sky Line, a fictional movie about aliens.

'€œThe two films will be produced together, side by side. All the shootings will be conducted in this studio. Only a small number of scenes for the Singapore 1965 will be taken in Singapore,'€ said Michael.

He said the two films were part of the company'€™s project to produce seven cinema movies and TV series in the last four years. Kinema was aiming to produce six films per year.

'€œThe amount of investment to develop this studio reaches US$10 million. This is a long-term investment. It will hopefully work for the next 30 years. The film industry we build is not just for one or five years but for a longer time,'€ said Michael.

He was speaking after receiving a visit by Prince Albert II of Monaco to the studio in Batam.

Among the animated movies Kinema has produced include Garfield, Franklin and Friends, Leonard/Dr. Contraptus and Rollbots. Most of the films have been screened on HBO. Kinema has also produced an animated film adapted from a Japanese novel entitled A Drifting Life, written by Yoshihiro Tatsumi. The film tells about social life in Japan.

'€œIn each film production process, we have employed almost 400 local artists as supporting resources. Almost 40 percent of our animators are Indonesians. This shows that Batam and Indonesia have quite a good capacity in the creative industry, especially in animation,'€ said Michael. (ebf)(++++)
