hristopher Rungkat, the nation's number one men's tennis player and Lavinia Tananta, third-seeded national women's player, won the 2014 Garuda Indonesia Tennis Open tournament on Sunday.
Rungkat won his maiden title after defeating Aditya Hari Sasongko, fourth-seeded national player, 4-6, 6-3 and 6-2. The defending champion Lavinia snatched her second title after crushing Voni Darline 6-0, 6-1.
Rungkat was awarded US$5000, while Lavinia received $3000. Each winner also received an MVP car.
'This win has boosted my spirit and confidence for the next tournaments,' said Lavinia.
'Through these kinds of tournaments I can keep honing my skills,' said Rungkat.
The award ceremony was attended by Culture and Elementary and Secondary Education Minister Anies Baswedan, Garuda Indonesia president director Emirsyah Satar and Youth and Sports Ministry deputy chief of development affairs Djoko Pekik Irianto at the Hotel Borobudur tennis court, Central Jakarta, on Sunday.
