he Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) is slated to hold anational congress to replace chairman Jusuf Kalla who ends his tenure thismonth.
The three-day congress will open on Dec. 16 in Jakarta and will be attended by representatives of PMI chapters from across the country.
During the event, President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo is also scheduled to award 864 blood donors who have donated blood 100 times.
Kalla, who was elected vice president in the presidential election this year, will also deliver his accountability report as PMI chief.
'For the past five years, the PMI has had three focuses, which are blood donation, disaster management and social problems,' PMI secretary-general Budi A. Adiputro said in a statement.
Under Kalla's tenure, the PMI has been involved in 875 missions to help victims of natural disasters in the country and abroad. Among the missions were the Mount Merapi eruption; a flood in Wasior, West Papua; a tsunami in Japan; a major flood in Thailand; Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines; and an ethnic-based conflict in Myanmar.
