he Indonesian Navy has confirmed that it will participate in a maritime defense show, the 2015 IMDEX ASIA in Singapore, preparing two warships for the exhibition.
'We will bring two types of warship for the exhibition; the fast missile boat and the multi-role light frigate,' Navy spokesperson Commodore Manahan Simorangkir told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
Manahan said that the Navy would gain many benefits by attending the event.
'It will help create strong relationships among navies worldwide. This is part of diplomacy,' he said.
IMDEX Asia is the Asia Pacific region's flagship maritime defense show and will take place in Singapore from May 19 to 21 May this year.
More than 15 countries, including Germany, New Zealand, the Philippines, the UK, Vietnam and Peru have confirmed they will attend the show.
Besides a maritime weaponry exhibition, several conferences and trade fairs will be part of the event.
It has been reported that Southeast Asia is projected to spend around US$25 billion on naval ships by 2031, with patrol vessels, frigates and amphibious ships making up the primary focus of future naval projects in the region. (nfo)(+++)
