ice President Jusuf Kalla Monday received Chevron Asia-Pacific president Melody Meyer, who gave the Vice President an update on the progress of the energy producer's investments in the country.
"Chevron reported the development and progress of its investment, especially Indonesia's deepwater project," Kalla said at the Vice Presidential Office as reported by Antara news agency.
Kalla added that Indonesia appreciated the Chevron as the oldest oil and gas producer operating in Indonesia.
"Chevron has been [operating in Indonesia] for 90 years. In 10 years more it will be a century," he said.
"Forty percent of Indonesian [oil and gas] production is from Chevron," he added.
According to Kalla, Chevron hoped to continue seeking oil and gas reserves in Indonesian waters through the Indonesia Deepwater Drilling (IDD) project.
Earlier, in January, Chevron CEO John Watson pledged the company's commitment to continuing to work as part of the IDD in the Makassar Straits to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.
The IDD project was slated to begin in 2014 but ran into permit problems.
Chevron has obtained approval for a project in the Bangka block worth US$12 billion. (nvn)(++++)
