onfusion over applying beauty products has inspired Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) Beauté, the luxury makeup brand of L'Oreal Indonesia Group, to launch a new makeover tutorial using Google Glass.
Indonesia is the first country in the Southeast Asia region to launch the service, after its initial launch in the US in September 2014, followed by South Korea and France, L'Oreal Indonesia Business Development Manager luxe division Venny Septianita said on Friday.
'Indonesia was chosen as it records the biggest revenue for the company in the region,' Venny said without elaborating.
In its launch of Google Glass makeover in Indonesia, YSL Beauté offered customers the opportunity to get a makeover by a makeup artist while having the entire process recorded by the device to watch later.
'We understand that women want to do their makeup like the makeup artists, and with Google Glass, they can repeat the makeover steps at home,' said Venny at Pondok Indah Mall, South Jakarta.
She said the company did not have an official partnership with Google Inc. for the use of Google Glass, but had bought two Google Glass devices from the US as it was not available in Indonesia at this time.
The Google Glass, a wearable technology with an optical head-mounted display, can take photos and record 720 pixel HD videos from the point of view of the user.
It was chosen as TIME magazine's Best Invention of the Year in 2012, despite the controversy over the privacy-violating capabilities of the device that followed after.
The makeover service with Google Glass will be available at three main counters of YSL Beauté, namely in the Pondok Indah Mall 2 from May 25 to 31, which will soon be followed by the counter in Plaza Senayan, South Jakarta, and Grand Indonesia, Central Jakarta.
However, only customers who spend at least Rp 2.5 million (US$189) on YSL Beauté products can get the Google Glass makeover recording sent to their personal email addresses. (fsu)(++++)
