here will no change to the number of national and joint holidays next year from this, according to a ministerial decree jointly signed by Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi, Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin and Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri last Thursday.
Hanif said on Monday that the 15 national holidays would be effective for all workers, civil servants, soldiers and public officials, while the four joint holidays, deducted from annual leave, would be effective only for civil servants, soldiers, police officers and public officials.
'The private sector may adjust the national and joint holidays to ensure effectiveness and efficiency,' Hanif said, adding that the government would compensate civil servants required to work on the holidays.
Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Puan Maharani, who witnessed the decree's signing, said that the decision on the national holidays and joint leaves had followed an in-depth study and discussion.
'After conducting an in-depth study and discussion, the government has decided that there will be 15 holidays and four joint holidays in 2016,' Puan said in a press release.(++++)
