U.S. stocks rose on Wednesday after Federal Reserve policymakers voted to keep interest rates unchanged and gave no indication that a rate rise was imminent. A modest rebound in Chinese stocks also helped push the stock market higher.
For the day:
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 121.12 points, or 0.7 percent, to 17,751.39.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 15.32 points, or 0.7 percent, to 2,108.57.
The Nasdaq composite rose 22.53 points, or 0.4 percent, to 5,111.73.
For the week:
The Dow is up 182.86 points, or 1 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 28.92 points, or 1.4 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 23.10 points, or 0.5 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is down 71.68 points, or 0.4 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 49.67 points, or 2.4 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 375.68 points, or 7.9 percent. (*)
