The Jakarta administration launched on Wednesday mobile app Qlue Transit to track buses of city-owned bus operator PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) to enhance passengers'€™ transit experience.

The app, developed by PT TerralogiQ Integrasi Solusi, allows users to check how fast a bus is traveling and whether the bus is full. TerralogiQ previously developed Qlue Jakarta Smart City.

TerralogiQ CEO Rama Raditya said that the app used real-time bus location data derived from the onboard GPS in each vehicle.

'€œWe want to maximize passengers'€™ experience in using Transjakarta. We want to provide useful information through the app,'€ Rama said during the launch at City Hall.

He pointed out that the app also had features that worked only through crowdsourcing, similar to community based crowdsourcing traffic and navigation app Waze. Users, Rama said, could share their experience through the app. The main layout of the app will be a map with icons of buses that can be tapped to see further details.

'€œUsers can see whether a bus is full and at approximately what speed the bus is traveling. Thus, users can estimate the time of a bus'€™ arrival at their bus corridor or the time of travel from one bus corridor to another,'€ Rama said.

For example, he said, if an icon of a bus was shown red or orange, the bus was full. On the contrary, if a bus is shown green, then it is empty. When tapped, each bus will also show the approximate speed at which it is traveling.

Rama said that TerralogiQ was seeking to cooperate with electric train operator PT KCJ to track trains.

'€œWe will approach KCJ. Hopefully a train tracking [app] can also be introduced soon,'€ he said.

Further, Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama said that the app would also be useful for the city administration to track the whereabouts of buses, as many Transjakarta bus drivers were known to take unauthorized breaks, including during rush hour when the number of passengers was at its peak.

On the same occasion, the Go-Busway feature was also launched, integrated in the existing (ojek) motorcycle taxi order mobile app Go-Jek. Similar to Qlue Transit, Go-Busway also provides information on the real-time location of buses and the exact location of Transjakarta bus corridors for drivers'€™ reference.

'€œThrough Go-Busway, we want to promote Go-Jek as a feeder to Transjakarta,'€ Go-Jek chief financial officer Kevin Aluwi said.
