T

he former North Sumatra governor during the 1967-1978 period, Marah Halim Harahap, passed away at Permata Bunda Hospital in Medan on Thursday at 6 a.m. local time of complications from a stroke suffered 10 years ago. He was 94 years old.

His body was laid out at a funeral home on Jl. Sakti Lubis in Medan.

Tribunnews.com reported that besides relatives and mourners seen at the funeral home, North Sumatra provincial secretary Hasban Ritonga also paid his final respects.

Marah was a community figure and soccer enthusiast. He spearheaded the Marash Halim Cup international soccer tournament. Thanks to his love of soccer, North Sumatra excelled in the sport at the time.
