The Jakarta administration has demanded state-owned commuter train operator PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (KCJ) develop bus stops at its stations to ensure that the operation of feeder buses from PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) can take place smoothly.
'We will operate many feeder buses to connect the commuter train stations with Transjakarta buses. Therefore, KCJ needs to immediately provide bus stops,' said Jakarta Communications and Transportation Agency head Andri Yansyah, as reported by beritajakarta.com.
KCJ and Transjakarta on Thursday agreed to cooperate in enabling passengers to easily change from Transjakarta buses to commuter trains and vice versa. To facilitate the idea, Transjakarta will operate feeder buses that will pass through KCJ stations, starting next year.
As an initial step, KCJ is set to develop a bus stop near Tebet station in South Jakarta, according to KCJ communications manager Eva Chairunisa. She said KCJ would also develop bus stops at Tanah Abang and Karet stations in Central Jakarta and Manggarai station in South Jakarta.
PT Transjakarta president director Antonius Kosasih said his company had prepared feeder buses that would be ready to be operate in December. 'We are ready to operate the feeder buses this December, but we have to coordinate with KCJ to make sure that they are ready,' he added.
Andri, however, expressed hope that KCJ would develop bus stops at more of its stations because Transjakarta had allocated buses for the cooperation. 'I don't want to see that we are operating the feeder buses, but the bus stops are not ready yet,' he added.
'If the stations are not provided with bus stops, it will worsen traffics jams,' he said, citing traffic jams that occur in Cikini, Central Jakarta, as an example. (bbn)(+)
