T

he Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has that proposed Mardanai Ali Sera be paired with Sandiaga Uno of the Gerindra Party in the Jakarta gubernatorial election on Feb. 15, 2017.

Sandiaga is a member of Gerindra’s supervisory council, while Mardani is a PKS executive board member. The introduction of the pair was made at an event in Jakarta on Thursday.

“God willing, the PKS and Gerindra will agree to nominate Sandiaga Uno-Mardani-Ali Sera as Jakarta gubernatorial and deputy gubernatorial candidates,” the PKS executive board said in a statement as reported by tribunnews.com on Friday.

PKS president Mohamad Sohibul Iman said the decision to nominate Mardani was based on various considerations, including the result of a survey, the number seats the party had in the Jakarta City Council and communication with other political parties.

The combination of 26 seats in the City Council – Gerindra's 15 and the PKS' 11 – exceeds the required 22 minimum to nominate a candidate. “We will communicate with other political parties to strengthen the coalition. We will declare the pair soon,” Sohibul added.

Meanwhile, Gerindra deputy chairman Arief Poyuono said the party appreciated PKS’ pairing proposal but would coordinate with other parties before making a decision. (bbn)
