P

resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has asked Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama when the renovation of the sidewalk from the National Monument (Monas) park to the Senayan sports complex might be completed.

Ahok was accompanying Jokowi on Friday to assess progress on the mass rapid transit (MRT) project in Dukuh Atas, Central Jakarta, and the light rail transit (LRT) project in Cibubur, East Jakarta.

“I told the President that the expansion of sidewalks from Monas park to the Hotel Indonesia (HI) traffic circle would finish by the end of this year,” Ahok told journalists at the MRT building site in Dukuh Atas, Central Jakarta.

However, he admitted that the expansion of sidewalks from the HI traffic circle to the Semanggi bridge was delayed because three transportation projects – MRT, LRT and the bus rapid transit (BRT) came together in the area. Meanwhile, the project from the Semanggi bridge to the Senayan traffic circle would also conclude this year.

“The President wants to see large sidewalks [from Monas] to Senayan Youth Statue. In January, we will be able see the new look of the sidewalks,” he added.

Earlier on Friday, Jokowi and Ahok entered a tunnel for the MRT project in Dukuh Atas. They were briefed by PT MRT president director Dono Boestami before entering the tunnel.

The 15.7-kilometer MRT line from the HI traffic circle to the Lebak Bulus bus terminal is expected to be completed in 2018, while the project from the HI traffic circle to Kampung Bandan in North Jakarta is set for completion in 2020. (bbn)
